Nielsen Construction California is proud to announce the completion of the New El Centro Courthouse in El Centro, California. Delivered through the Construction Manager at Risk project delivery method, the new courthouse provides a modern facility that enhances court operations and public service for the residents of Imperial County.
The completed project consists of a four-courtroom, 46,810-square-foot courthouse and 132 surface parking spaces for the public and jurors. Located on a 3.57-acre site on Wake Avenue between Merrill Center Drive and Thomas Drive, the facility serves criminal case matters for all residents of Imperial County.

The project was developed to replace existing court space in the Brawley and Valley Plaza courthouses. By consolidating criminal court calendars and operations into a single facility, the courthouse improves court operational efficiency, access to justice, and overall public service. The project also relieves existing space shortages, increases security, and replaces deficient court facilities.
Prior to completion of the new courthouse, the Superior Court of Imperial County's criminal court operations were divided between the historic Imperial County Courthouse in El Centro and the Brawley Courthouse. This arrangement created operational inefficiencies, while both facilities experienced overcrowded courtrooms and deficiencies related to security, accessibility, and fire and life safety requirements.
Completed on November 15, 2023, and occupied on December 14, 2023, the project was delivered with a total authorized budget of $73,424,000. Nielsen Construction California served as the Construction Manager at Risk, working alongside Safdie Rabines Architects and Vanir Construction Management, Inc.
The courthouse has been certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizing the project's commitment to sustainable design and construction.
