SDSU Calexico Housing Project

Nielsen Construction Selected to Deliver Landmark Student Housing Project for SDSU Imperial Valley and Imperial Valley College

Nielsen Construction California is proud to announce its selection as the general contractor for the new joint student housing development serving San Diego State University Imperial Valley and Imperial Valley College. Working alongside our design partner, SILLMAN, we are honored to help bring this transformative project to life and support the future of higher education in the Imperial Valley.

This project represents a major investment in student success and community development. The new housing complex will provide 40 single- and double-occupancy rooms on the SDSU Imperial Valley campus in Calexico, creating affordable, convenient housing options for students from both institutions.

As a locally based construction company with more than two decades of continuous experience building throughout the Imperial Valley, Nielsen Construction understands the unique needs of the region and the importance of creating facilities that strengthen communities. Our team is committed to delivering a high-quality housing environment that will enhance the student experience, reduce transportation challenges, and foster a stronger sense of campus life.

The project is made possible through significant state investment and reflects a shared commitment among SDSU Imperial Valley, Imperial Valley College, and community leaders to address student housing needs. By creating on-campus housing opportunities, the development will help students focus on their education while building lasting connections with their peers and campus communities.

For Nielsen Construction, the project carries special significance. Having previously completed multiple projects on the SDSU Imperial Valley campus, including the Steppling Art Gallery, we are excited to continue our partnership with the university and contribute to another milestone in its growth.

"Our team is honored to work alongside SDSU Imperial Valley and Imperial Valley College on this groundbreaking project," said D. Nielsen Pollock, President of Nielsen Construction California. "This development represents more than a building—it represents an investment in students, educational opportunity, and the future of the Imperial Valley. We are committed to delivering a facility that will positively impact students for generations to come."

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2025, with completion targeted for fall 2026. Nielsen Construction and SILLMAN look forward to collaborating with project partners throughout the process and delivering a housing community that supports student achievement both academically and socially.

By combining local expertise, thoughtful design, and a commitment to quality, Nielsen Construction is proud to help create the first on-campus student housing development at SDSU Imperial Valley and contribute to a stronger future for higher education in the region.
