Nielsen Construction Delivers New Ramona Community Resource Center for San Diego County

Nielsen Construction California is proud to announce the successful completion of the new Ramona Community Resource Center, a transformative facility designed to provide residents with streamlined access to essential County services in a modern, sustainable, and community-focused environment.

Developed in partnership with San Diego County and SILLMAN Architects through a design-build delivery approach, the new $15 million facility serves as a centralized hub for health, wellness, nutrition, and self-sufficiency services for residents throughout Ramona and surrounding communities. The center officially opened its doors in January 2025, marking the culmination of a vision more than two decades in the making.

Located at the corner of 12th and Main Streets, adjacent to the Ramona Library, the new Community Resource Center replaces a facility that had served the community since 1988. The approximately 7,300-square-foot building was thoughtfully designed to reflect the character and identity of Ramona while creating a welcoming destination for residents seeking County services.

As the design-build contractor, Nielsen Construction worked closely with County stakeholders, community members, and project partners to create a facility that prioritizes accessibility, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. The center includes flexible community gathering spaces, modern service areas, and accommodations that support expanded programs for older adults, veterans, and families. Community input played a key role in shaping both the building's design and functionality.

The project also reflects Nielsen Construction's commitment to sustainable building practices. The facility was designed to achieve LEED Gold certification standards and operates as a Zero Net Energy building, generating more energy through rooftop solar panels than it consumes annually. In addition, the project achieved a significant reduction in embodied carbon, helping support San Diego County's environmental goals while creating a healthier, more resilient facility for future generations.

The Ramona Community Resource Center represents more than a new building—it is an investment in community wellness, accessibility, and quality of life. The project also created opportunities for local businesses, small businesses, and disadvantaged business enterprises that participated throughout construction, reinforcing Nielsen Construction's commitment to supporting local economies and building strong community partnerships.

Nielsen Construction is proud to add the Ramona Community Resource Center to its growing portfolio of award-winning civic and community projects throughout California. By combining innovative design-build solutions, sustainable construction practices, and a commitment to client success, our team continues to create facilities that strengthen communities and improve lives.
